TLDR Switching to twice-weekly betamethasone led to full hair regrowth in 3 months without side effects.
An 8-year-old girl with alopecia totalis, who did not respond fully to a daily oral dose of 1 mg betamethasone over 8 months, showed complete hair regrowth within 3 months when switched to an oral mini-pulse (OMP) therapy. This OMP therapy involved taking 5 mg of betamethasone on two consecutive days per week. The treatment was effective and had no side effects, suggesting OMP as a viable option for patients with recalcitrant alopecia areata.
