Adipose Stem Cell-Derived Exosomes for Lichen Planopilaris: A Case Report

Firas Haddad, Serena Saade, Rami Abadi
TLDR Exosome treatment from stem cells improved hair regrowth and reduced scalp issues in a woman with lichen planopilaris.
A 35-year-old female with lichen planopilaris (LPP), a type of scarring alopecia, showed significant improvement in hair regrowth, decreased erythema, and reduced scalp scarring after receiving four sessions of topical exosome treatment derived from adipose stem cells. This case report highlights the potential of exosomes as a novel treatment for LPP, offering a steroid-sparing alternative with a favorable short-term side effect profile. Despite the promising results, the study acknowledges limitations such as the lack of long-term safety data, the single-case nature of the report, and the need for larger, controlled studies to confirm efficacy and determine optimal treatment protocols.
