TLDR Dog hair follicle stem cells can turn into fat cells.
This study investigated the pluripotency of canine hair follicle stem cells (cHFSCs) by attempting to differentiate them into adipocytes in vitro. The cHFSCs were cultured in William’s E medium with growth factors and passaged, with their stemness confirmed by immunostaining for the CK15 marker. Viability was assessed using acridine orange staining. After inducing adipogenic differentiation with adipogenic induction media for seven days, the cells developed a spindle shape and accumulated fat droplets, which were positively stained with Oil Red 'O'. These results demonstrate that cHFSCs are multipotent and capable of differentiating into various cell types, including adipocytes.
