TLDR Testosterone therapy in transgender men can cause acne.
Masculinizing hormonal therapy in transgender men was found to potentially increase androgen levels, affecting the pilosebaceous unit and leading to acne vulgaris. The article aimed to educate dermatologists on the complexities of treating acne in transgender men undergoing testosterone therapy. It discussed the pathogenesis and treatment options, emphasizing the need for awareness of medical, social, and psychological factors unique to this population. Although standard acne treatment guidelines could generally be applied, the article noted a lack of specific studies on this topic for transgender men, highlighting the need for more research in this area.
