TLDR Transgender acne treatment requires a tailored approach with ongoing topical treatments and ceramide-rich moisturizers.
The study addresses acne management in transgender patients, highlighting that testosterone therapy in transmen often leads to moderate to severe acne, necessitating oral treatments, while feminizing hormones in transwomen can reduce severe acne but may cause skin dryness and irritation. A multidisciplinary approach involving various specialists is essential due to the hormonal treatments' impact on acne. The study emphasizes that treatment for transgender acne differs from classic acne, with a high risk of relapse after stopping treatment, thus requiring maintenance with topical treatments and ceramide-enriched emollients. Despite challenges, effective treatment options are available.
