5 mg/day finasteride treatment for normoandrogenic Asian women with female pattern hair loss
February 2011
in “Journal of The European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology”
TLDR Finasteride improves hair density and thickness in women with hair loss.
The study evaluated the effectiveness of 5 mg/day finasteride treatment for normoandrogenic Asian women with female pattern hair loss (FPHL). After 12 months of treatment, hair density and thickness significantly increased, and 81% of patients showed improvement in global photographic assessment. The treatment was generally well tolerated, and the study suggests that finasteride may be an effective treatment for some subgroups of FPHL. However, a double-blind placebo controlled study is required to identify accurate efficacy of high dose finasteride treatment for FPHL.
