Efficacy and Safety of Topical 3% Minoxidil for Facial Hair Enhancement in Transgender Men: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial

This study assessed the efficacy and safety of topical 3% minoxidil for facial hair enhancement in 69 transgender men on stable gender-affirming hormone therapy. Over 12 weeks, the minoxidil group experienced significant improvements in facial hair density and diameter compared to the placebo group, with notable increases in beard and mustache density. Participants also reported improved quality of life and satisfaction with facial hair growth. Adverse events were minimal and similar between groups, indicating that topical 3% minoxidil is an effective, safe, and well-tolerated treatment for enhancing facial hair in transgender men, providing a valuable option in gender-affirming care.
