    handheld device magnifying and illuminating skin for detailed examination

    A dermatoscope, also known as a dermoscope or skin surface microscope, is a handheld device used by dermatologists to examine the skin in detail. It combines a magnifying lens with a light source, often polarized, to enhance the visualization of skin structures and patterns that are not visible to the naked eye. This tool is particularly useful for diagnosing skin conditions, including melanoma and other skin cancers, as well as evaluating hair and scalp disorders like alopecia.
