    GlossaryCryopreservation

process of preserving biological material at extremely low temperatures

Cryopreservation is a process used to preserve cells, tissues, or any other biological constructs by cooling them to very low temperatures, typically using liquid nitrogen at -196°C (-321°F). This technique halts all biological activity, including biochemical reactions that might lead to cell death, allowing the preserved material to be stored for extended periods and later revived with minimal loss of viability.
