Is the omega-3 to omega-6 ratio in your diet feeding your hair problem without you knowing? Nutrition sources describe a lopsided omega-6 to omega-3 intake as pro-inflammatory, but no published human study shows that the dietary ratio changes 5-alpha reductase, scalp DHT or hair loss; the one relevant trial tested a commercial omega-3/6 plus antioxidant supplement in 120 women, not a change in dietary fat ratio.
How long does it usually take to see results in hair density after starting omega-3 supplements? There is no tested timeline: no trial has studied omega-3 on its own for hair density. The one human trial that reported an improvement ran for six months and used a combined omega-3/omega-6 plus antioxidant supplement, so any change would be judged in months rather than weeks — and may not appear at all.
Can low omega-3 intake after a diet change weaken hair? There is no good evidence that low omega-3 intake causes hair loss or that adding omega-3 restores hair. If hair thinned after a diet change, ask a doctor to check for iron deficiency, low protein or calorie intake, or telogen effluvium.
