    GlossaryLithocholic acid

secondary bile acid produced by intestinal bacteria

Lithocholic acid (LCA) is a secondary bile acid produced in the intestines by bacterial action on primary bile acids. It plays a role in the digestion and absorption of fats and fat-soluble vitamins, but high levels of LCA can be toxic to liver cells and have been linked to certain diseases, including liver cancer.

community Bile Acid-Mediated DHT Dysregulation Hypothesis

      in Research/Science  13 upvotes 1 month ago
Elevated bile acids can inhibit the enzyme AKR1C2, leading to increased DHT levels, which may accelerate hair loss in those predisposed to androgenetic alopecia. Treatments mentioned include topical minoxidil and finasteride.
