    GlossaryHair Bulb (hair follicle bulb)

rounded base of the hair follicle where growth starts

The hair bulb is the rounded, bulbous structure at the base of the hair follicle, located in the dermis layer of the skin. It is the site where hair growth begins, containing actively dividing cells that produce the hair shaft and the inner root sheath. The hair bulb also houses the dermal papilla, which supplies nutrients and signals necessary for hair growth.
