    inflammation of hair follicles, often due to infection

    Folliculitis is an inflammation of the hair follicles, often caused by bacterial or fungal infections. It appears as small, red bumps or white-headed pimples around hair follicles, and can be itchy or painful. In severe cases, it can lead to scarring or permanent hair loss.
