November 2020 in “Skin Research and Technology” The study investigated the characteristics and structural changes associated with enlarged facial pores by examining 160 women, half with normal-sized pores and half with enlarged pores. Enlarged pores were found to be denser, more contrasted, and exhibited a more regular organization of keratinocytes, an irregular dermo-epidermal junction, and higher collagen attenuation. Notably, bright tubular structures surrounding hair follicles and enlarged hair shafts were observed. These findings suggested that changes in the stroma could alter skin tensions, leading to dilation of the infundibulum and enlarged hair shafts, as well as affecting keratinocyte organization and the dermo-epidermal junction.
