    CYP11A1, also known as Cytochrome P450 Family 11 Subfamily A Member 1 or P450scc, is an enzyme crucial for the production of steroid hormones. It catalyzes the conversion of cholesterol to pregnenolone, the first step in the biosynthesis of all steroid hormones, which are vital for various bodily functions including stress response, immune function, and regulation of inflammation.
