    GlossaryTranscriptional Activation

process of increasing gene expression to produce more RNA

Transcriptional activation is the process by which a cell increases the expression of a specific gene, leading to the production of more RNA and, subsequently, more protein from that gene. This is typically achieved through the binding of transcription factors to specific DNA sequences near the gene, which helps recruit the cellular machinery needed for transcription. For a layperson, think of it as turning up the volume on a specific instruction manual within the cell, so more copies of that instruction are made.
