TLDR Zinc affects hair growth and may be linked to hair loss.
The article explored the role of zinc-dependent factors in regulating the hair follicle cycle, highlighting the involvement of bazonuklin, matrix metalloproteinases, and metallothionein in anagen regulation. It was noted that apoptosis in hair follicle cells was controlled by zinc-dependent proteins such as Bax and survivin from the Bcl 2 and IAP families. The study hypothesized that mineral imbalances affecting zinc concentration could contribute to the pathogenesis of alopecia areata, though experimental confirmation was needed to establish the impact of trace-element imbalances on the structural and functional condition of hair follicles.
