TLDR Vitiligo often runs in families and is linked to genetics and autoimmune factors.
The study investigated the familial tendency of vitiligo in 60 patients, revealing that 26.66% had a familial occurrence of the condition. It predominantly affected individuals up to 20 years old. The research highlighted the significant role of genetic variations in the etiology of vitiligo, a chronic skin disease characterized by loss of pigment. The study also noted that vitiligo is associated with autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, and genetic factors such as mutations in the NALP1 gene may contribute to susceptibility. The findings suggested that familial and genetic components are important in understanding vitiligo's pathogenesis.
