Therapeutic Potential of Vitex Negundo for the Treatment of Polycystic Ovarian Disease: A Review

Vitex negundo, a plant used in traditional medicine, shows promise as a treatment for polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD) due to its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, metabolic, and potential endocrine-modulating effects. While animal studies suggest positive impacts on ovarian morphology, estrous cyclicity, oxidative stress, and metabolic parameters, human data are still preliminary and often involve polyherbal formulations. Despite the strong mechanistic rationale for its use in PCOD management, further well-designed randomized controlled trials with standardized extracts are necessary before it can be recommended for routine clinical use.
