TLDR Lower vaspin levels are linked to more severe acne and higher insulin resistance.
This study assessed the serum level of vaspin in 52 patients with acne vulgaris (AV) and its relation to insulin resistance, compared to 32 control subjects. The findings indicated that patients with AV had significantly lower levels of vaspin and higher levels of fasting blood glucose, fasting insulin, and HOMA-IR compared to the control group. A significant positive correlation was observed between HOMA-IR and the severity of AV, while vaspin showed a significant negative correlation with HOMA-IR in the AV group. These results suggested that serum vaspin played a role in the pathogenesis of acne vulgaris and was inversely related to insulin resistance in these patients.
