TLDR Lower vaspin levels are linked to more severe acne and higher insulin resistance.
This study assessed the serum level of vaspin in 52 patients with acne vulgaris (AV) and its relation to insulin resistance, compared to 32 control subjects. The research found that patients with AV had significantly lower levels of vaspin and higher levels of fasting blood glucose, fasting insulin, and Homeostasis Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR) compared to the control group. There was a significant positive correlation between HOMA-IR and the severity of AV, while vaspin showed a significant negative correlation with HOMA-IR in the AV group. These findings suggested that serum vaspin played a role in the pathogenesis of acne vulgaris and its association with insulin resistance.
