TLDR Lower irisin levels in the blood may indicate more severe acne.
The study investigated the relationship between serum irisin levels and acne vulgaris in 60 patients compared to 60 healthy controls. It was found that patients with acne vulgaris had significantly lower serum irisin levels than the control group, and these levels were inversely correlated with insulin resistance and disease severity. The research suggested that serum irisin could serve as a biomarker for acne vulgaris pathogenesis and might be a prognostic indicator for the severity of the condition.
