TLDR Patients with acne vulgaris have lower serum irisin levels.
The study investigates the serum irisin levels in patients with acne vulgaris, a common inflammatory skin condition affecting hair follicles and sebaceous glands. Acne vulgaris is characterized by comedones and inflammatory lesions on the face, chest, shoulders, and back. Insulin resistance, which decreases cell sensitivity to insulin, is linked to various skin conditions, including acne vulgaris. Irisin, a hormone associated with body size, shape, and obesity, can improve insulin resistance by stimulating thermogenesis and energy consumption in subcutaneous adipose tissue. The intervention in the study led to decreased glucose and insulin levels, indicating improved insulin resistance.
