TLDR Urtica laetevirens extract significantly reduces 5α-reductase activity.
The study investigated the inhibitory effects of Urtica laetevirens Maxim. extract on 5α-reductase using an in vitro model. The reactive system included 5α-reductase from male rat livers, testosterone, and NADPH. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) measured testosterone concentration changes to assess 5α-reductase activity. The n-butanol fraction of the water extracts of Urtica laetevirens Maxim. significantly inhibited 5α-reductase activity, with finasteride serving as a positive control.
