TLDR An unhealthy lifestyle increases the risk of metabolic syndrome.
The study on the Romanian experience with metabolic syndrome (MetS) identified significant risk factors such as living in a rural environment, low education level, past smoking, lack of fruit and vegetable consumption, carbonated soft drinks, and heavy alcohol consumption. It emphasized the importance of adopting healthy dietary patterns to reduce MetS incidence. The strongest risk factor was living in a rural area, followed by low education. Despite limitations like a small sample size of 181 patients and reliance on self-reported data, the study underscored the need for therapeutic lifestyle changes and further research to clarify dietary interventions' roles in preventing MetS.
