TLDR Biotin improved hair growth and combability in one child with uncombable hair syndrome.
The study reported on three children with uncombable hair syndrome, characterized by slow-growing, straw-colored hair that could not be combed flat. Scanning electron microscopy revealed the hair had a triangular cross-section with longitudinal depressions. One child showed significant improvement in hair growth rate, strength, and combability after 4 months of oral biotin treatment (0.3 mg three times a day), although the hair's triangular shape persisted. The other two children, who also had ectodermal dysplasia, experienced gradual improvement in hair appearance and combability over 5 years without biotin therapy.
