TLDR Trps1 plays a key role in hair follicle development and cycling.
The study investigated the expression of the zinc-finger transcription factor Trps1 during hair follicle morphogenesis and cycling in mice. Trps1 was found to have a dynamic expression pattern, decreasing in the epidermis and increasing in the dermis during early skin development. It was specifically expressed in the nuclei of mesenchymal cells during hair follicle morphogenesis and localized to the nuclei of dermal papillae cells during the telogen and anagen phases of hair follicle cycling. The study highlighted Trps1's consistent localization in the nuclei of dermal papillae and proliferative epithelial cells across mouse, rat, and human hair follicles, suggesting its significant role in hair follicle development and cycling.
