TLDR Trichoscopy effectively diagnoses and assesses the severity of androgenetic alopecia.
The study on 63 patients (51 males and 12 females) in India found that trichoscopy is a valuable tool for diagnosing androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and assessing its severity. Hair shaft thickness heterogeneity (HSTH) was identified in all patients, marking it as a key indicator of AGA. More severe stages of AGA were linked to white peripilar signs and focal atrichia, which may indicate a need for surgical intervention. The study underscores trichoscopy's role in diagnosis, treatment planning, and patient counseling, though it notes the limitation of not having follow-up data to evaluate changes after treatment.
