TLDR The TrichoScan method effectively measures hair growth and helps choose patients for hair restoration surgery.
In a study from 14 years ago involving 40 patients with androgenetic alopecia, the TrichoScan method was found to be effective in measuring hair growth parameters and aiding in patient selection for hair restoration surgery. This method, which combines optics and computer analysis, objectively evaluates parameters like hair density, diameter, growth rate, and the ratios of anagen to telogen hairs and miniaturized to terminal hairs. Compared to macroscopic examination and videomicroscopy, TrichoScan provided more consistent results between two examiners. It was especially useful in objectively tracking hair loss processes, assessing treatment effectiveness, and selecting patients for hair transplant procedures by offering objective and reproducible data on hair density and miniaturization grade.
