TLDR Hair restoration in children, tailored to their specific needs, can yield good aesthetic results with minimal complications.
In the past, the Hair Clinic Poznan in Poland conducted 8440 hair restoration operations over an 18-year period, with 57 of these operations performed on children. The children's hair loss was due to a variety of causes, including hereditary factors, perinatal traumas, radiotherapy, and mechanical, thermal, and chemical damage. The methods of restoration were tailored to the type of hair loss, the child's age, and their ability to cooperate with the surgeon. For single massive scars, skin flap correction was typically used, prepared with expanders. For numerous scattered defects or significant thinning of the scalp, hair transplantation was the preferred method. The clinic developed a "four-hand stick-and-place" technique for quick and precise procedure execution. The application of these varied surgical techniques in scalp reconstruction procedures in children yielded very good aesthetic results with a minimal complication rate.
