TLDR The hydrogels heal infected diabetic wounds quickly and effectively.
The study presents the development of triboelectro-responsive DNA hydrogels integrated with a triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) to enhance the healing of bacterium-infected diabetic wounds. These hydrogels, which incorporate conductive polymers, improve bioelectrical behavior and facilitate drug delivery in response to acute wound events. The system demonstrates excellent anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, promoting collagen deposition, angiogenesis, and hair follicle regeneration. Remarkably, the hydrogels achieve a 99.8% closure of infected wounds within 14 days, suggesting their potential as next-generation smart dressings for chronic diabetic wound therapy.
