TLDR Intralesional triamcinolone acetonide is more effective than platelet-rich plasma for treating scalp alopecia areata.
The study compared the efficacy of intralesional triamcinolone acetonide (5 mg/ml) and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in treating alopecia areata (AA) on the scalp in 30 patients with at least 2 AA patches. Each patient received both treatments on different patches, with follow-ups every 3 weeks for a total of 4 follow-ups. Results showed that patches treated with triamcinolone acetonide had significantly higher hair regrowth scores compared to those treated with PRP. The study concluded that intralesional triamcinolone acetonide was more effective than PRP in treating scalp AA, with minimal adverse effects such as atrophy and hypopigmentation.
