TLDR Spironolactone and minoxidil together effectively treat female pattern hair loss.
This case report describes the successful treatment of female pattern hair loss (FPHL) with a combination of spironolactone and minoxidil. The patient, a 53-year-old woman, was initially treated with spironolactone 200 mg daily, which resulted in hair regrowth at 12 months but plateaued at 24 months. Twice daily therapy with topical minoxidil 5% solution was then introduced and further regrowth was documented, confirming the additive effect of combination therapy. The authors suggest that combination therapy should be considered for women presenting with FPHL.
