TLDR Trazodone and chlorpromazine may help treat sexual dysfunction caused by finasteride and SSRIs.
The review article suggests trazodone and chlorpromazine as potential treatments for post-finasteride syndrome (PFS) and post-SSRI syndrome, which involve persistent sexual dysfunction after stopping the causative drugs. Trazodone, due to its alpha-adrenergic antagonist properties, may help restore libido and erectile function by reversing synaptic disconnection caused by finasteride and SSRIs. Chlorpromazine, an antipsychotic with similar properties, also shows promise but may have more restrictions. The article emphasizes trazodone's low cost and known side effects, making it a relatively safe and effective option for these drug-induced sexual dysfunctions. The study is supported by the São Paulo Government Research Support Foundation (FAPESP) and declares no conflict of interest.
