TLDR Using minoxidil on balding scalps can stimulate hair regrowth and increase blood flow. It's an effective treatment for early hair loss.
This document compiles studies on the use of topical minoxidil for hair regrowth in early androgenetic alopecia. The studies suggest that minoxidil can stimulate hair regrowth and increase cutaneous blood flow in balding scalps. A study of 150 men found that both 2% and 3% topical minoxidil were effective in promoting hair growth compared to a placebo. Mild and self-limiting dermatologic events were associated with the study drug, but clinically insignificant minoxidil blood levels were observed. Overall, the studies suggest that topical minoxidil can be an effective treatment for early androgenetic alopecia.
