TLDR Plumbago zeylanica L. leaves may help dissolve blood clots and have antioxidant benefits.
The study evaluated the thrombolytic and antioxidant activities of Plumbago zeylanica L. leaf extracts. In vitro tests showed that the methanolic leaf extract achieved maximum clot lysis of 96.83% at 800 μg/mL in 72 hours and demonstrated strong thrombin inhibition at 94.63% with 2 mg/mL. In vivo studies using a thrombotic tail model indicated significant clot lysis at doses of 100, 200, and 300 mg/kg. The extract also exhibited antioxidant properties with DPPH and nitric oxide scavenging activities, showing IC50 values of 25.47 and 56.32, respectively. The extract was deemed safe up to a dose of 2000 mg/kg. These results suggested that Plumbago zeylanica L. leaves could be a promising source of thrombolytic and antioxidant agents.
