TLDR Plumbago zeylanica has valuable medicinal properties but needs sustainable cultivation methods.
Plumbago zeylanica, a medicinal plant from the plumbaginaceae family, is widely used in Africa and Asia for its various pharmacological activities, including anticancer, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties. Due to its therapeutic value, it is over-exploited, necessitating alternative mass propagation methods. This review highlights the plant's traditional uses, phytochemistry, pharmacology, and toxicity, emphasizing the need for in-vitro technologies to meet growing demands and facilitate the development of novel herbal preparations. Further research and development in this area are encouraged.
