TLDR Baricitinib may effectively treat nail changes in alopecia areata.
A 28-year-old female with alopecia areata and associated nail changes, including pitting and ridges, showed significant improvement after 11 months of treatment with baricitinib, a JAK inhibitor. Initial treatments with topical steroids and calcineurin inhibitors were ineffective. Baricitinib not only normalized the nail appearance but also promoted hair regrowth on the scalp, eyebrows, and eyelashes. This case suggests baricitinib as a potential therapeutic option for AA-associated nail changes, although further research is needed to confirm its efficacy and long-term outcomes.
