TLDR BlastX helps heal uninfected wounds but doesn't improve healing in infected ones.
The study investigated the effects of BlastX wound gel on wound healing in both uninfected and Staphylococcus aureus infected wounds using a murine model. In uninfected wounds, BlastX promoted healing by enhancing re-epithelization, neovascularization, and reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines. In infected wounds, while BlastX effectively eliminated S. aureus, it did not significantly enhance healing, as evidenced by decreased re-epithelization and hair follicle formation, and the presence of M1 macrophages. The study concluded that BlastX did not interfere with the healing process in either wound type, and any differences in healing were attributed to the initial S. aureus infection.
