Synergistic Effect of Bismuth Subgallate and Borneol on Skin Wound Healing

    The study from 20 years ago examined the healing effects of Bismuth subgallate (BS) and Borneol (BO) on skin wounds in Sprague-Dawley rats. The rats were treated with either BS, BO, a combination of both (BS+BO), Vaseline, Flamazine® (a wound healing drug), or no treatment at all. The combined BS+BO treatment was found to be the most effective, surpassing the individual components and Flamazine® in promoting skin wound restoration. This combination led to a decrease in lesion area, enhanced granulation tissue formation, faster re-epithelialization, improved eating behavior, and better reconstitution of skin appendages, indicating a synergistic effect between BS and BO in skin wound healing.
