TLDR Thai purple rice bran-based cosmetics are rich in antioxidants and stable, but need refinement for better market quality.
The study focused on formulating and evaluating the stability of cosmetic products based on Thai purple rice bran. The researchers extracted active compounds from rice bran using 80% ethanol and assessed the total phenolic and anthocyanin content. The rice bran oil and extract demonstrated high antioxidant capacity. The cosmetic formulations, which included rice bran extract and fermented and distilled purple rice solution, were found to be physically stable under heat-cool cycles and maintained the stability of active compounds at 30°C for two months. However, storage at 45°C affected the phenolic compounds. The formulations were free from microbial and heavy metal contamination. The study concluded that rice bran phytochemical-based cosmetics were rich in antioxidants, stable, and safe, suggesting potential for market quality with further refinement.
