TLDR The buffy coat method yields higher TGF-β1 levels in PRP, especially in males.
This study compared transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-β1) levels in platelet-rich plasma (PRP) extracted using pure and buffy coat methods in 26 healthy individuals from Bali, aged 20-40 years. The results showed a significant difference in TGF-β1 levels between the two methods, with higher levels in the buffy coat method (p=0.049). Additionally, TGF-β1 levels in buffy coat PRP varied significantly by gender, being higher in males (3,603.54 ng/ml) than females (1,208.85 ng/ml; p=0.028), while no gender difference was observed in pure PRP. This suggests that the extraction method and gender can influence TGF-β1 levels in PRP.
