TLDR A hydrogel releasing pectolinarin speeds up wound healing and reduces scarring.
The study developed a composite dressing incorporating pectolinarin, a flavonoid compound, into PF-127 hydrogels to facilitate scarless skin regeneration. The dressing was tested on a rat full-thickness skin defects model, involving 30 male Sprague Dawley rats, and was found to effectively enhance wound healing and minimize scar formation, particularly at a pectolinarin concentration of 50 μg/mL. The dressing's antioxidant properties were also assessed by measuring reactive oxygen species. The dressing promoted endothelial cell proliferation, migration, and activation of vascular-related genes. It also exhibited significant antioxidant activity and reversed cell damage caused by reactive oxygen species. The treated group also displayed intact skin tissue, including hair follicles and sebaceous glands, as well as well-aligned collagen fibers. The study suggests that the combination of pectolinarin with PF-127 hydrogels represents a promising strategy for scar-free skin healing in future clinical applications.
