TLDR Proper guidance on minoxidil use and side effects is crucial.
A study conducted via email survey among 3,875 alopecia patients, with 202 responses, assessed the awareness and usage of topical minoxidil solution. The results indicated that while patients with male and female pattern hair loss and some with alopecia areata found minoxidil relatively effective, those who had not consulted a doctor often misunderstood its usage and side effects, leading to lower satisfaction. Additionally, 10.4% of patients with heart problems used minoxidil without caution. The study concluded that despite being an over-the-counter medication, proper guidance on its use and side effects is crucial, highlighting the important role of dermatologists.
