TLDR Topical sulforaphane reduces pigmentation and wrinkles from sun damage.
A pilot study investigated the long-term effects of topical sulforaphane (SF) on photoaged skin in 8 patients with moderate to severe photodamage. Participants applied broccoli sprout extract containing SF on their face and forearm for 4 months. Results showed significant improvements in facial pigmentation, coarse and fine wrinkles, with decreases of 28%, 25%, and 29% in mean scores, respectively, and a 27% reduction in facial yellowing. Forearm pigmentation also decreased by 22%. The most notable improvements occurred in the first month, indicating that topical SF can effectively improve dyspigmentation and wrinkles associated with skin photoaging.
