TLDR A new molecule was found to be a safe and effective skin lightener and anti-aging product.
The study aimed to develop a safe and effective skin depigmenting and antiaging agent. Two chalcone-based molecules were synthesized and tested for their tyrosinase inhibition and solubility. One molecule, 5-[(E)-3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)acryl]-2-hydroxybencensulfonic acid, showed promising results. It increased tyrosinase inhibition 2-fold compared to the reference and improved solubility by over 80 times. It was also found to be non-cytotoxic and non-irritant, and it reduced melanin content by 51%. The molecule also demonstrated antiaging activity by showing antioxidant, antiglycation, and autophagy efficacy. The results suggest that this molecule could be a suitable candidate for use as a safe and effective depigmenting and antiaging agent in dermatology or cosmetics.
