TLDR High doses of some selenium supplements caused liver and reproductive harm in rats.
The study investigated the systemic subchronic toxicity of four selenium nutritional supplements (SeP, SeY, L-SeMc, and Na2SeO3) over a 90-day period in Sprague-Dawley rats. The results indicated that high doses of L-SeMc caused significant adverse effects, including howling, hair loss, lethargy, and poor locomotor ability, leading to the euthanization of six female rats. Other selenium supplements did not show significant abnormalities in clinical observations and eye examinations. The study provides a basis for assessing the safety and clinical application of these selenium supplements.

The user believes Retrograde Alopecia may be linked to vitamin imbalances, specifically from taking too much Vitamin E, A, Zinc, and Selenium, and suggests it could be a middle ground between Androgenic Alopecia and Telogen Effluvium. Treatments for hair loss mentioned include Androgen inhibitors and improving lifestyle factors like nutrition and sleep, with topical melatonin also recommended for Retrograde Alopecia.
