TLDR Spironolactone may cause increased brain pressure in some patients.
A case report described a patient with androgenetic alopecia who experienced a significant increase in intracranial pressure after being treated with spironolactone, a drug commonly used in dermatology for conditions with high androgen levels. The patient had a history of inactive idiopathic papilledema, which was reactivated by the medication. The symptoms resolved quickly after discontinuing spironolactone. This case highlighted the importance for physicians to be aware of rare adverse events associated with spironolactone that could lead to serious consequences.
