TLDR Snail1 may contribute to fibrosis in frontal fibrosing alopecia in postmenopausal women.
The study investigated the expression of Snail1 in the fibrotic dermis of postmenopausal women with frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA) and suggested a possible involvement of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in the disease's pathology. The research reviewed Japanese patients and found that Snail1, a transcription factor associated with EMT, was present in the fibrotic areas of the dermis. This finding indicated that EMT might play a role in the development of fibrosis in FFA, providing a potential target for future therapeutic strategies.
