TLDR Sirtuin 1 could be a potential drug target for treating hypertrophic scars.
The study identified sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) as a promising therapeutic target for hypertrophic scars. Researchers found that SIRT1 expression was lower in hypertrophic scar tissues and that modulating SIRT1 activity with resveratrol reduced fibrosis-related proteins (α-SMA, Col1, and Col3) and improved skin appearance in experimental models. In a mouse model, resveratrol treatment led to more organized and thinner collagen fibers, similar to normal wound healing. These findings suggested that targeting SIRT1 could effectively regulate fibroblast activation and collagen synthesis, offering a potential new avenue for treating hypertrophic scars.
