TLDR Sleeve gastrectomy leads to significant weight loss and health improvements with few complications.
This cross-sectional study of 114 obese patients in Sulaimani found that laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) led to significant weight loss and improvements in obesity-related conditions over six months. The average BMI decreased from 41.2 kg/m² to 32.8 kg/m², and weight dropped from 110.8 kg to 87.8 kg. Early postoperative complications were minimal, with a 0.9% incidence of serious issues. Comorbidities like sleep apnea and joint pain saw dramatic reductions, and 50% of patients with hypertension and diabetes stopped their medications. However, 68.4% of patients experienced hair loss. The study concludes that LSG is effective for weight loss and improving obesity-related conditions with a low complication rate.
